Phyllis L. Sgrignoli

Phyllis Leota Sgrignoli died on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA. She was born on September 25, 1938 in Six Mile Run, PA to her parents, Stanley J. Shaffern and Margaret A. Figard, who preceded her in death along with her brother Stanley H. Shaffern.

            She was the devoted wife of David William Sgrignoli for 53 wonderful years, and an extraordinary mother and role model for her four children, Rodney, Angela LaMarch, Edward and Amy Baily. She is survived and adored by six grandchildren – Erika LaMarch, PhilipB. Sgrignoli, Nicholas Knull, Ciara Knull, Nicole Sgrignoli and David Sgrignoli - and a great granddaughter, Ariyah Holmes, who was God’s gift to Phyllis after her husband passed away 4 years ago. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan, June, Jean and Judy,and her brother, Jimmy.

            Phyllis attended Saxton Liberty High School in Six Mile Run, PA then moved on to her 4-year nursing degree and RN license from Harrisburg Polyclinic. From there, Phyllis served for many years in various hospitals, clinics and as a PA state employee, one of the kindest and nurturing nurses in her field. She was always proud to have been the first nurse in the maternity ward at Holy Spirit Hospital when it opened in 1963 and her son Rodney was one of the first little ones born at the Hospital. Her career also took her to North Carolina where she served at the Womack Army Hospital in Fort Bragg.

            A mass will be held at the family’s church, Our Lady of Lourdes, in Enola, PA on Friday, March 2nd with a viewing from 9-10 AM and a mass at 10 AM.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
