Carolyn Gross, 91 of Enola was a wife, mother, grandmother and recently a great grandmother. She was the daughter of Charlotte and Albert Wantz of York. Carolyn passed away peacefully November 14, 2021 at UPMC West Shore Hospital after a brief illness (not Covid) surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was married to John Gross, the love of her life, for 60 years prior to his death in 2013. In recent years she had amazing compassionate caregivers (her sorority) to assist her. She remained mentally sharp, interested in current events, enjoyed politics and visits with her wonderful friends. She was an amazing mother and extremely close with her daughter who was significantly involved in helping her continue to live in her own home until her death. Her life was full and she enjoyed many fun activities, out to eat with friends, dancing with her husband and playing bridge. Golf was her favorite activity and at 84 years young she started bowling. She was a graduate of York High School and Shippensburg College. She taught school for many years, lastly teaching with the CAIU at Good Shepherd School. Early in her retirement she tutored reading through the literacy council. She was a retired snowbird to Florida and then to Myrtle Beach while maintaining Enola as her home. She was proud of the East Pennsboro School District and her community for which she was active in supporting. The family is appreciative and thankful for her caregivers and friends. Carolyn met many challenges of physical limitations due to Parkinson’s Disease and blindness, while remaining positive and hopeful her health would improve. She was proud of her ability to live life her way. Surviving is her daughter Lori Gross-Plumley, her son-in-law Jay Plumley, her granddaughter Brynn Calloway (husband Greg) and great granddaughter Carmen. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 265 N. Enola Dr. Enola. The viewing will be held from 10:00 am until time of services in the church.
