Claud W. Hersh, 87, of Summerdale, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020.
Born in Harrisburg on January 24, 1933, Claud married his devoted wife, Ramona M. (Pyle) Hersh on April 12, 1951. As a young man, Claud served as a Communications Specialist with the US Air Force, and upon discharge, took a position as an Engineer with the firm of Modjeski and Masters in Camp Hill. He worked for them until his retirement.
One of Claud’s greatest loves, other than his family, was woodworking and Claud could always be found down in his woodshop in the basement of his home, making beautiful pieces of furniture, toys, puzzles and knick knacks as gifts for family and friends. Whenever anyone would ask Claud what he was doing that day, he would reply “Making sawdust.” But everyone knew that the sawdust was just a result of the amazing pieces he would create. Claud was a member of the Summerdale United Methodist Church and served on several committees and in various capacities for over 40 years. Claud also greatly enjoyed serving as a leader in the local Boy Scouts of America troop for many years and was an avid camper and trout fisherman.
Claud is preceded in death by his wife Ramona and their daughter Diane M. Greene. He is survived by sons, Daniel W. Hersh of Summerdale and Timothy A. Hersh of Mechanicsburg, and by grandchildren, Gareth A. Hersh, Guido M. Schiavoni, Christopher Hersh and Ashley Hersh. A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Summerdale United Methodist Church.
