Douglas A. Bender

Douglas A. Bender Sr, 61, of Summerdale passed away peacefully on March19, 2023, at UPMC of Mechanicsburg. Born in Mechanicsburg, he was the son of Ruth A. (Wood) and the late Barry L. Bender of West Fairview. He retired from Dauphin County Penn Dot. Doug was the loving husband of Bonnie J. (Bostwick) Bender. A loving father to Douglas A. Bender Jr and Melanie (Joe) DiFilippi of Henderson, NV, Jeremy (Danielle) Gipe of Camp Hill, Pa and Katie Gipe (Ryan) of Enola, PA. Daddy to his special fur baby, Honda. He also was an awesome Pappy to 12 grandchildren. Doug is also survived by his siblings, Rena (Rick) Brown, Steven Bender, Kelly (Tom) Stambaugh and Randy (Stacy) Bender. He is also survived by his Sister-in-law, Karen Arnett and Brother-in-law, Terry (Lauren) Bostwick .Also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Mother-in-law Patricia Bostwick and Sister-in-law, Patty Bender. Doug was an SAL member of West Fairview Post 984 American Legion, member of the American Legion Riders Post 751, a member of Enola Sportsmens Club and Marysville Sportsmen’s Association. Doug was an avid hunter, who loved the outdoors, and fishing. Most importantly, he loved spending time with all his kids and grandkids. He loved spending time with family and friends at his camp in Raystown Lake. If anyone knew Doug, he would tell you stories for days about adventures at camp. Especially his doughnut runs. He loved feeling the fresh air that smacked his wild beard back on his face while riding his“Old-Wing” .We will be holding a Celebration of life for Doug at West Fairview American Legion Post 984 from 1pm to 4 pm on Sunday, April 16, 2023. If anyone would like to join us for Doug’s last motorcycle ride, on April 16, 2023 we will be meeting at Doug’s house by11:30am and kickstands up at 12pm. Final destination will be post 984. To offset the cost of the funeral, donations may be made to Richardson Funeral Home 29 S. Enola Dr. Enola PA 17025.
