In the comfort of his own home, with family by his side Elwood (Woody) James Cox of Cocoa Beach, FL and Harrisburg, PA, passed away on February 23, 2020. Woody was a fighter who endured a long battle with cancer and complications from pulmonary fibrosisbefore coming home to spend his final days with family. Friends and family rallied behind him after his admission to Hershey Med. and were blessed with his company and humor for the remaining weeks he had on earth. A graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School, DeVry University and Penn State University,Elwood was an electrical engineer and business man. Woody’s name is engraved on 4 different NASA monuments for his work on the Gemini space program and every Apollo mission as a key member of the electrical engineering team for the Lunar Lander. Later in life he moved back home to Harrisburg to be closer to his mother, Margaret Cox. He worked at AMP, Home Depot, the State of Pennsylvania and Tyco Electronics. While in Harrisburg, he began the best part of his life in which he leaves behind a loving wife, Bonnie Cox (formerly Hoffman), daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Chris Riordan, and three beautiful grandchildren, Annabell, Caleb and Charlize. Also mourning are his three sisters Chris Cox (Married to Nancy Neill),Linda McPhillips (married to Terry McPhillips), Bonnie Onomastico (married to Vince Onomastico), brother Timothy Cox (married to Leann Cox), ten nieces and nephews as well as eleven great nieces and nephews. The family would like to invite all of those who were a part of Woody’s life to his Memorial Mass at Saint Margaret Mary Church, 2800 Paxton Church Road, Harrisburg, PA at 10 AM on Saturday, February 29 and a celebration of Woody’s life will follow the service. In lieu of flowers please donate to Hospice of Central PA or Bishop McDevitt High School.
