John Kauffman Obituary

John Paul Kauffman passed on July 16, 2018.  John was madly in love with and totally dedicated to his wife Heather, his three super cool boys Braden, Porter and Sawyer, and Jagger, widely-regarded as his four-legged fourth son.  He left behind two proud parents – Elsie Petty and Paul Kauffman – and three adoring siblings – Michelle, Jeff and Danielle.  Eternally happy to have spent time sitting around a fire with John are family members near and far, and friends way too many to count.  Rest assured, John loved them all.

John was the President, CEO and Big Cheese of Kauffman Carpentry, a company he built on his own as a reflection of what was important to him – honesty, hard-work, quality craftsmanship and having fun.

More than anything, John loved spending time with his family.  Getting outside with the boys was always the goal.  Few things excited John more than the smell of a dirt track, a humming engine, or a burning fire.  On occasion, Bourbon Johnny would show up, and everyone knew where to look for the life of the party, equipped with a wit so sharp it would cut a line right to your funny bone and a sense of caring and empathy that went straight to your heart.  But more than anything, John cared for so many – he was that friend who you know would always be there for you, no matter the circumstances.  It was just his way.

Anybody who has read this far likely knew John – if that’s the case, you’d know that he’d hate nothing more than a fancy memorial service complete with buttoned-up shirts and everyone staring at his pretty face.  It isn’t going to happen.  Rather, there’s a party being planned, likely in a big field, with lots of fun, memories, and story-telling.  Stay tuned for details.

John went to change his boots one last time.  Rest peacefully, Johnny.
