Patrick Henry Arter Jr.

August 9, 1924 ~ August 19, 2020 (age 96)


Patrick Henry Arter, Jr., passed peacefully on August 19, 2020 at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts. Patrick was born in Duncannon, Pennsylvania, in 1924 to Patrick Henry Arter, Sr. and Grace Hibbs Arter. Patrick, formerly of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, and Lexington, Massachusetts, was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Arter, and by his first wife, Kathleen Miller Arter. He was the beloved father of Michael Arter of Lakeville, Massachusetts. Patrick grew up in Duncannon, PA with his older sister, Audrey, and younger brother, Harvey. He attended Duncannon High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. After graduating in 1942, Patrick served during World War II in Europe with the United States Army Air Corps. After being honorably discharged and coming home from the war in 1946,he enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1952 with a business degree from the Wharton School of Business.Patrick then worked for Price Waterhouse Company and became a Certified Public Accountant. Thereafter, Patrick worked for over thirty years for Raytheon Corporation. During his years at Raytheon, Patrick attended Suffolk University School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor degree in 1973, then went on to earn a Master’s degree in Taxation from Bentley College. He retired from Raytheon’s corporate tax department in 1991. After retiring, Patrick returned to Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Virginia, spending time with his son and his grandchildren, and was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Enola, PA.Patrick is survived by his son, Michael Arter, his wife Cory Arter, and his grandchildren Patrick Henry Arter, III, Benjamin Arter, and Taylor Kinzler, all of Lakeville, Ma., his brother Harvey Arter, of Media, PA, and several nieces and nephews. A private service will be held. Patrick will be laid to rest next to his wife Kathleen at the Rolling Green Memorial Park, in Camp Hill, PA.
