Peggy Lynn Schmidt
January 25, 1950 ~ January 10, 2024 (age 73) 73 Years Old
Miss Peggy Lynn Schmidt, 73, of Old Colonial Road, Harrisburg, PA, passed away in her home January 10, 2024.
Peggy was born January 25, 1950 in Buffalo, NY and lived briefly in Shelby, OH, and Stanford, CT, but spent most of her elementary school years, and all of her High School years, in Wyckoff, NJ. Peggy attended Ramapo Regional High School ’68 and Lycoming College ‘72 where she was selected in her senior year to be 1 of 10 Homecoming Candidates. She earned her Undergraduate degree in Psychology, and went on to earn her Masters degree in Special Education at William Paterson College.
After college, Peggy returned to Wyckoff and worked for several years as a Special Education teacher at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Peggy had a deep and caring love of children however, the stress and emotional demands of this profession unfortunately took their toll, so she decided to change careers. She moved back to her college town of Williamsport, PA where she became a licensed insurance agent. This profession eventually took her to Harrisburg, PA, where she developed a strong bond with the community. She joined St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Soroptimist International of Harrisburg of PA Club, where she was a director, and the Wool and Flax Knitting group.
Peggy treated others better than she treated herself. Her only indulgence was an occasional pedicure or manicure. As an Insurance Agent, her clients benefitted from her care and due diligence, as a friend or family member, she never missed an occasion to send a carefully selected Hallmark card, with a child, she always played as if a kid herself, and with any pet, she spoiled them like a human.
Surviving are her brother Keith Schmidt and his wife Susan of Raleigh, NC; her nieces Carissa Ghaffari of Richmond, VA and Alexandra Schmidt of Charlotte, NC.; her cousins of Buffalo, NY Chad Schlee, Dana Ronan, and Darcy Zuchlewski, Chad Covey of Hickory, NC, Dawn Dowd of Williamsburg, VA, and Beth Cameron of Sherburne, NY. Last, but not least, she is survived by her dearest friend Nancy Minnick of Harrisburg, PA, and her entire family, who opened up their hearts and homes and provided her the love and support she deeply cherished. Peggy was proud of her heritage and was predeceased by her father Fred Schmidt of Pearl River, NY, Arleen (Angst) Schmidt of Buffalo, NY and Grandfather Gottfried Schmidt of Pearl River, NY, the inventor of Bowling’s Automatic Pinspotter.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4200 Londonderry Road, Harrisburg, PA. 17109.
