Ramona M. Hersh, 87, of Summerdale, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019. Ramona was affectionately known as The Taffy Lady, by generations of Summerdale residents, because of the homemade taffy she would make each Halloween for Trick or Treat. Many adults who grew up in Summerdale would return every Halloween with their children and grandchildren, just to get another piece of the delicious candy Ramona made each year. Ramona was a member of the Summerdale United Methodist Church and sang in the Senior Choir for over 40 years. One of Ramona’s greatest loves was camping with her family and until recent years, she and her husband Claud would spend most of the spring, summer and fall in their home away from home at Grey Squirrel Campgrounds in Beavertown, PA. Ramona was a past member of a ladies bowling league of Camp Hill and also was an avid reader most of her life. She also was very invested in the care and feeding of neighborhood stray cats and participated in a trap, spay/neuter and release program in Summerdale, along with local animal rescue organizations. She is survived by her husband, Claud W. Hersh, her sons, Daniel W. Hersh of Summerdale, Timothy A. Hersh of Mechanicsburg, Grandchildren, Gareth A. Hersh, Guido M. Schiavoni, Christopher Hersh and Ashley Hersh. She was preceded in death by her daughter Diane M. Greene. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 am Saturday July 27, 2019 at the Summerdale United Methodist Church, 203 Second St., Summerdale, PA. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Summerdale United Methodist Church.
